After the tragic events of 9/11, many artists in the comic book industry were asked to contribute to a special project, the proceeds from which would go to help those affected by the attacks.  This was my contribution.

The newest issue of Popular Science has a full page of artwork done by yours truly. Projects for PopSci are always fun to do, since they give me the chance to combine photos with hand-drawn art. This project’s only downside was the tight deadline. When calls come in, I usually have a week or less to get layouts approved and all the art from pencils to inks to final colors approved. The timeline can be a bit stressful, my editor at the magazine is very relaxed, which helps greatly. Head out and pick up your copy today!

Welcome back, folks!  Sorry for the delay in posts but I have some great news.  The Idaho Potato Commission campaign that I worked on for Evans Hardy + Young won a  Gold Addy award .  This win marks my third award as an advertising illustrator, and the Second Gold Addy for a project in which I was involved.  I was quite fortunate to have worked with great art directors and clients, and I am honored.

Well friends I am finally able to let you know about my latest endeavor.  I know you already saw the image at the top. Yup, the guys at Topps asked me to do another property and this time it was for the new “Terminator: Salvation” movie.  I did a total of 106 sketch cards, just like I did with Star Wars, I will post art once the set has been released, and I will have a new presentation piece completed to show off a few of the sketch cards and my 6 out of the 106.

Ball and Chain beer

These illustrations were done in a cartoony style of art, which I love, and getting to apply it in advertising art just makes me smile.  The client gave me a pretty interesting direction:  “Give me something people will like!” Wow, talk about stating the obvious and not much else.  Well, here is what I gave him and to tell you the truth, he made shirts, glasses and all sorts of other stuff and it all just sold like crazy.  Which made me very happy and him even happier.

Milwaukee's Best Light

In the next few posts, I’ll talk about the work I’ve done for beer producers.  First is the illustration I did for Milwaukee’s Best Light: the client had a very clear idea of where they wanted to take this project.  This illustration was completed  in about 24-48 hours due to the extremely tight deadline.  Then, right as I laid in the finishing bit of gray tone, I received a call from the client saying the project had been killed.  Obviously, no artist likes hearing those words, but it happens more then you know, and has nothing to do with the work, just a change in direction.  I promise that the other beer projects will be ones that made it out of the gate and were shown to the world.

Star Wars Galaxy 4 sketch cards from Topps cards

I know that a lot of people have been waiting to see these sketch cards, and today I can finally show them.  On February 19, 2009, Topps’ Star Wars Galaxy 4 cards were finally released.  Back in December 2008, Topps and I were talking about me doing a bit of work for them and one of the things we spoke about was doing sketch cards.  When I was told that Star Wars was the property that they wanted me to work on, I jumped at the chance.  Star Wars Galaxy cards have always been a huge fan favorite and the last set was done in 1995.  I did a total of 106 cards; 100 went going into the boxes and 6 were returned to me.

Also, thanks to my good friend DJ for putting together a wonderful presentation piece for me this weekend!

Opening Splash page for Disney's Hercules

Opening Splash page from Disney's Hercules art by Peter Pachoumis

This one one of the first projects I ever did for mainstream publishers – Acclaim Comics and Disney. This was also my first attempt at working on licensed characters, though it is something I would continue to do for many years, and still do to this day. I remember being very excited about this because I was given the opportunity to look at all the Disney model sheets for this movie well before the movie came out.

This project had many challenges. For example, all the characters had to look exactly like they did in the movie in every single panel. Also, the storytelling had to be rendered as flawlessly as a Disney storyboard artist would make it. All in all, it was both a challenge and an educational experience.
